It’s been a busy old time at Armourgeddon recently with completely booked out weekends, plenty of corporate events filling the weekdays and a couple of shows with battle re-enactments too.

August is usually a month of summer holidays, fulfilled days out and trips to the seaside. Or, of course, if you are super lucky, a day out at Armourgeddon!

The event days here filled up really quickly for August so we knew we were in for a busy old time! The sunshine at the start of the month gave us a fabulous dry and rigid track- prefect for high speed tank driving and plenty of lumps and bumps to excite the passengers in the back of the tanks.

Smiles and laughter all round. And then the last weekend of August and the first in September happened! These weekends are greatly anticipated here at Armourgeddon as we attend two of our favourite events of the year.

Tanks, Trucks and Firepower is a fantastic show of hundreds of military vehicles, re enactments and more guns, smoke and big bangs than you could shake a fist at! Taking place in Dunchurch, just on the outskirts of Rugby, the show covers a wide expanse of farmland, which for the weekend is turned into a step back in time as hundreds of re-enactors, enthusiasts and tank aficionados re create the battle fields of Northern France and mainland Europe during the years of WWII, without the death and devastation of course!

Tanks range from American beasts such as the M3 Sherman tank, to FV432 people carriers, from Bedford trucks showing their versatility to an XZ664 Westland Lynx AH7. The main event arena housed huge shows to entertain the crowds. A slightly worse-for-wear Ford Mondeo was splatted to the delight of the younger audience, guns were fired in the darkness of night and an enormous firework display entertained and amazed the masses on the Sunday night. Needless to say the team at Armourgeddon embraced the atmosphere, were straight into character and had a blast showing off their tanks for the weekend. Despite the rain on Saturday, which was close to Biblical in proportions, spirits were not dampened and the rest of the weekend was blue skies and beers!

With hardly enough time to pop back to base to polish the tanks, the following weekend, the Armourgeddon team were off to the Victory Show in Cosby, near to the Armourgeddon base. The show may be local, but logistics are just as tricky when moving multiple tonnes of metal and guns whether it’s for one mile or a hundred and one.  Similar to the previous weekend, groups are invited to create their own camps and act as if they are 60 years in the past for the whole weekend. Air displays, Airmen to infantry and a 1940s themed Dinner Dance all made for a great weekend. The Armourgeddon team, this year, camped out in the top corner of the 100-acre site, right next to the airstrip. We must have been really rowdy last year!

And that’s it! Shows are over for another summer and we are back to weekends at work. A huge thank you, of course, to the team that stayed behind and ran the events at Armourgeddon at the weekend, and to the show organisers for a most enjoyable 2 weekends.

Next up for us is a trip to an auction of military vehicles in Mainland Europe to see if we can further extend our collection here on site. Activities are still running at Armourgeddon every weekend through to the end of October, selected Wednesdays too and for corporate or group bookings outside of these times, please do contact the office for availability.
