Russian T-54

The T-54 was designed in 1945 and succeeded the T-44 and was the first of the new generation of Soviet tanks to enter service after World War 2. It has been an extraordinarily successful and long lived design.

Production started in 1948 and by the time it ceased some 30 years later, over 95,000 T-54’s and the improved version T-55’s had been built. It has been supplied to over 35 nations and remains in widespread service. In 1957 the T-54 was upgraded to the T-54B which was fitted with infrared driving lights and full snorkel equipment.

Description

Although it looks nice from outside, the T54 needs a fair amount of work to get it up and running on it’s own steam to say the least! The vehicle stands outside the museum building on display, while the engine sits on a pallet in the workshop. It is on our ever growing list of jobs, however the tank is still a popular one for static displays in the movies
