The M4 High Speed Tractor was designed in 1942 based on the chassis and drive train of the M2 light tank as the use of old designs made production and field maintenance a great deal easier.
The M4 was built as an anti-aircraft towing vehicle due to its size and power. Towing a range of howitzer, anti-aircraft and artillery guns like the 90-millimeter and 155-millimeter gun (nicknamed ‘the long tom’ due to its size).

1944 M4 High-Speed Tractor. On our to-do-list and hopefully to be fully restored in the next two years. Again this vehicle has been diesel converted and now runs a Detroit Diesel. Since delivered to us in 2010 we have only managed to change the tracks so far. Once again the diesel engine was fitted for use in the movie Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers.
